Playing a part in Detroit history, we recently had Playing a part in Detroit history, we recently had the opportunity to partner with DesRosiers Architects, Detroit Elevator, TSA, and a very passionate client that procured a Hudson's elevator and a series of Walnut wall panels from their iconic flagship store. These panels sat in a storage unit for almost a quarter century. DesRosiers Architects designed a new facade using a portion of the original panels. Matching veneer flitch was procured, profile knives were cut, original panels were stripped, rebuilt and reconfigured, to meld seamlessly with the new work. The elevator interiors required panel and molding replacement and complete refurbishment of all solid bronze tracery, light fixtures, hardware, and floor position indicator, performed eloquently by Drew Star. We were completely humbled by the attention to design detail and fabrication quality that was originally invested in this retail environment in the 1920s. Swipe for a sneak peek into our process...
